What is FOIA?
FOIA is the Illinois Freedom of Information Act. Under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5ILCS 140/1 et. seq.), records in possession of public agencies may be accessed by the public upon written request.
Who is the FOIA officer?
The district's designated Freedom of Information Act Officer is Damon Hackett, Superintendent of Deer Creek-Mackinaw School District #701. All requests should be put into attention to Mr. Hackett.
How can I submit a FOIA request?
The district's Freedom of Information Act request form can be found here. Written requests not using the provided form should state that information is being sought under the Freedom of Information Act. Provide a brief description of the public records requested, being as specific as possible. While responses can be provided via e-mail, please provide a mailing address.
What happens after I submit a request?
The Illinois Freedom of Information Act requires agencies to respond within five business days of receipt of a request. A five-day extension is allowed with written notification to the requester.
If the requested records are available in electronic form, they can be mailed to the requester free of charge. Paper copies can be made at a cost of $.15 per page. If the records exceed 50 pages, the requester will be informed of the duplication cost.

Is there a process to appeal the FOIA office's decisions?
In the event that part or all of a request is denied, requesters may appeal the denial to the President of the Board of Education. A written notice of appeal should be sent to:
