High School Construction Update:
Bidding Meetings
After many setbacks and delays, the bid specifications for the renovations at the high school have been released to the public. Interested parties may view the list of contractors who have received bid packets at the website of the district’s architect, Russ Middleton (www.middletonassociates.net). The schedule for bidding is now set. On Monday, August 20th, a bidders meeting will take place at 2:00 p.m. in the district office. The deadline for submitting bids is the following Monday, August 27th at 2:00 p.m. The Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 29th to formally award the contracts.
Unfortunately, the delays have pushed the start of the project back to late September or early October. Architect Middleton has explained that the complexity of the project has lead to the delays. Our project involves connecting a new structure to an existing structure that has three different roof lines, additions from previous years, and varying elevations. Although disappointed in the delay, the board and I believe that it is better to proceed with accuracy, rather than to have cost overruns and change orders related to a problem that was not anticipated when the bid specifications were drafted and released.
The board and I appreciate the communities’ patience and I will continue to provide updates on our status via the district’s website at www.deemack.org.
Yours for excellent schools, Steve Yarnall, Superintendent,
