The Women's
Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) has announced national qualifiers for their
2005-2006 poster and essay contest held last year. Mrs. Loretta Jent of WCTU came to Dee-Mack Intermediate School,
Deer Creek for a special assembly recently to honor Chance Bukowski, 6th
grade student. In front of the entire
student body, Chance learned that he had placed 2nd at the National
Level of competition for his poster entry.
Chance had submitted his entry as a fifth grader. The theme of the contest was, “Encourage good
decision-making and good lifelong choices concerning drugs, alcohol, and
tobacco”. Mrs. Jent reported that this
was the first national qualifier from this area. Previous to this award, Chance’s poster had
placed first in Tazewell County and first in the State of Illinois competition. To date, Chance has earned $95 in prize money
for his award winning poster. Chance is the son of proud parents, Chuck
and Shelly Bukowski of Mackinaw.
