Physical Therapy

My name is Anna Schwindenhammer and I am beginning my second year as the School Physical Therapist for Deer-Creek Mackinaw School District. In 2003, I received my undergraduate degree from Bradley University in Health Sciences and Spanish. I continued my education at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa and graduated in 2005 with my entry-level Doctorate of Physical Therapy. Throughout my education, I participated in several pediatric clinical experiences where I was able to refine my skills, while working closely with Board-Certified Pediatric Specialists.

As the School Physical Therapist, I collaborate with parents, teachers and educational staff to determine if a student qualifies for school-based physical therapy and provide suggestions or consultation regarding specific gross motor concerns. Additionally, I perform formal physical therapy evaluations, attend IEP or related school meeting and provide supervision to the Physical Therapy Assistants. School-based physical therapy focuses on assisting students to access the educational environment safely and appropriately. Specific areas addressed may include: navigation of school grounds including the playground, stairs and doors; transitioning in and out of desks and to/from the floor; and walking in line with peers carrying school materials.
