The
new school year has finally arrived!
Whether you are new to the district or
returning, I want to welcome you to the
Deer Creek – Mackinaw school district.
I sincerely hope that your summer has
been filled with opportunities to relax
and refresh. I am excited about the
upcoming 2008-2009 school term. It has
been an exceptionally busy summer and we
have many reasons to celebrate as we
open the school year:
§
we have
146 returning, veteran staff including
the addition of Michele Jacobs to the
administrative team;
§
the
completion of Phase 1 of the high school
renovations, successful demolition of
the 1914 structure, and the start of
phase 2;
§
a new
computer lab at the primary and junior
high, as well as some room relocations
and renovations;
§
a new
teacher’s workroom at the intermediate
school including the renovation of a
classroom; and
§
upgraded
computer hardware and software,
including improved firewalls and
website; and,
In
addition to our returning staff, please

forward in 2008-2009, the administrative
team met over the summer to look beyond
this school year in developing a
strategic plan that will continue to
target the highest level of student
learning for all district students. The
administrative team will be presenting
the strategic plan at the September 18th
Board of Education meeting. After
approval by the Board, we will be
posting our plan on the web site.

Deer
Creek-Mackinaw CUSD #701 is located in Tazewell and Woodford
Counties in Central Illinois about sixteen miles southeast of Peoria
and eighteen miles west of Bloomington. According to the School
District Data Book Profile (as found on the Internet) there are
4,243 individuals living within the school district boundaries. A
review of the residency of inhabitants documents that 370 live on
farms and 3873 live in a rural non-farm setting. This rural
community includes the towns of Mackinaw, Deer Creek, and a housing
development located outside the city limits, Heritage Lake. |
