January Newsletter

From the Principal

What a December we have had! Thanks to all of you the canned food drive was a huge success. 2,700 food items were collected for distribution to families in Deer Creek and Mackinaw. Once again, Breakfast with Santa was wonderful. Santa visited with over 200 children and reported that they all were “nice”. I hope all their wishes come true. Have a safe and healthy January.

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten registration is set for Tuesday, Feb. 17th from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday, Feb. 18th from 9-11 a.m. Registration will be held in the school library. Please have a copy of your child’s certified birth certificate ( not the one from the hospital) and any health records such as immunizations, dental, or physical screenings. Incoming kindergarten students must also have a vision exam. At that time you can make an appointment for a kindergarten screening. Those screenings will take place on Thursday and Friday, February 19th and 20th. Your child must be five on or before Sept. 1st in order to begin kindergarten.

Start the day with breakfast

It is so important to make sure we have enough fuel to make it through the morning. Please make sure your child has had a good breakfast before coming to school. You wouldn’t believe how many  students come to the office every day to tell us they haven’t had breakfast.  A breakfast or granola bar is a quick and easy choice if you are in a hurry.

Sports

Several sports are in full swing at this time of year. The wrestling program is new to our school this year with great participation. Boy’s basketball and girl’s volleyball are also going strong.  Please come to one of the games and show your support for our teams. The game schedules can be found on our website, www.deemack.org.

Weather

As you know, the district now has Global Connect to keep you informed of school closings or early dismissals. You can also watch any of the local TV stations for weather related closings or cancellations. You should have received a test call last month from the Global Connect system. If you didn’t, please call the school office to update your phone numbers.
