Parent Guide To The Elementary Report Card

 

Within each Subject Area are Performance Skills that students must possess to be competent in each of the subject   areas.

The Developmental Indicators are symbols designed to report your child’s development in each of the Performance Skills.  Those symbols and their definitions are:

+ The child is Consistently Applying the performance skill.

/ The child is Developing in this area, but is  not consistently applying the

performance skill.

# The child is Beginning to develop in this  area.

NE No Evidence of development has been observed.

NA This area is Not Applicable usually due to the limited time spent on this area by the class during the grading period.


Summary Indicators

In grade 3 a student’s overall academic performance in each Subject Area is summarized by using the letters A, B, C, or D.

A…

The student has demonstrated that he/she applies all of the performance skills consistently and independently.  He/she is able to analyze and apply what he/she has learned in new situations with elaboration.  The student is also capable of evaluating his/her completion of the learning task.

B…

The student demonstrates that he/she can apply all the performance skills consistently and independently.  While the student can evaluate their learning, they have not demonstrated that they can apply these competencies in new situations with elaboration.

C…

The student has demonstrated that he/she can usually apply the performance skills in certain assignments.  The student receiving this summary indicator sometimes requires additional guidance of the teacher.

D…

The student has demonstrated that he/she is beginning to apply the performance skills on some assignments.  The student receiving this summary indicator always requires additional guidance from the teacher

The student in the above sample report card is consistently applying all the reading Performance Skills.  The same student is not as well developed in writing.  He or she is “developing” in three of the writing areas and “beginning” to demonstrate an understanding in two.  In spelling, speaking, and listening, the student is developing the identified performance.  This student received a “C” as a Summary Indicator indicating that he or she can usually apply the Performance Skills, but occasionally requires teacher guidance.
