Dynamic Indicator of Basic Early Literacy Skills

 

Students are tested 3 times a year in the areas of:

Kindergarten:

Beginning Year Initial Sounds Fluency Letter Naming Fluency    
Middle of the Year Initial Sounds Fluency Letter Naming Fluency Phonemic Segmentation Fluency Nonsense Word Fluency
End of the Year   Letter Naming Fluency Phonemic Segmentation Fluency Nonsense Word Fluency

First Grade:

Beginning Year Letter Naming Fluency Phonemic Segmentation Fluency Nonsense Word Fluency  
Middle of the Year   Phonemic Segmentation Fluency Nonsense Word Fluency Oral Reading Fluency
End of the Year   Phonemic Segmentation Fluency Nonsense Word Fluency Oral Reading Fluency

Second Grade & Third Grade:

Beginning Year Oral Reading Fluency
Middle of the Year Oral Reading Fluency
End of the Year Oral Reading Fluency

The data obtained through these assessments are used to create "DIBEL" groups to give students who are "at risk" an additional intensive small group session.  These sessions are provided 5 days a week and Progress Monitoring tests are done to calculate growth.  DIBEL groups change each testing period based on the assessment results.
